Get the WHOLE team involved in the tax claim , not just the MD or FD …
It is really important to get the technical team involved in compiling the claim. They did the work, know the challenges involved and how long they took to resolve. Remember, most people underestimate the time they took to fix the problems, so as not to look bad in front of the MD or FD, but in this case, being open and honest about the challenges could result in a much bigger R&D claim for the company.
